Meet the Team

Nina Vila, Owner

Nina Vila is the owner and director of Vermont Classical Pilates.

Nina started her Pilates training when she was 42 years old.  She came to it by default.  Her sister taught Pilates and asked her to come in for a session.  That was the beginning of a deep love affair with Pilates.  She went on to train with Joseph Pilates protégé, Romana Kryzanowska, at the Pilates Studio in New York City in 1999.  She completed the rigorous program in August of 2001 when she first began teaching Pilates out of her home in Cornwall, Vermont.

Nina has studied with Romana Kryzanowska, Bob Liekins, Amy Alpers and taken numerous workshops with some of the brightest Pilates teachers in the United States.  She continues her line of inquiry with an unending passion and devotion to the method.

Jennifer Bruch

Jennifer Bruch started her Pilates experience in 2001, taking a mat class from Nina Vila at a local fitness club.  Having danced for half of her adult life with companies in Pittsburgh, New York and Middlebury, Jennifer was drawn to Pilates because she could sense it would keep her body strong and flexible without injury, something dance was increasingly not always able to do. She studied in earnest with Nina for almost a year before starting the rigorous teacher training program at The Pilates Studio in New York City, becoming fully certified in June of 2003.  Since then, she has taught Pilates with Nina at the Vermont Center for Classical Pilates in Middlebury, in addition to teaching mat classes in Vergennes and Bristol.

After nine years of teaching and studying Pilates, this work has evolved for Jennifer into a much deeper experience than just being physically strong.  Pilates has become a way of staying balanced both mentally and emotionally.  Dancing has become easier and much more fun. Her continued interest in teaching and studying Pilates has been fueled by the desire to help adults of all ages and fitness levels experience the centering and lightness that being balanced and strong can bring.

Jennifer is 55 years old and lives in Bridport with her husband Bryan Schofield. Her two grown children live in Nairobi, Kenya and New Haven, CT.  One of the activities she enjoys the most is teaching Bollywood dance, which she finds to be the perfect compliment to Pilates

Angel Carrara (photo coming)

While training for a marathon, Angelina came upon an article in a runner’s magazine, which emphasized the importance of core strength and how it enhanced long distance runs. Intrigued, she began mat and duet classes at VCCP. Angelina has been involved at the studio for almost four years as a client and is currently a teacher in training. Pilates has brought incredible benefits to her overall well being. It was also beneficial during her fourth pregnancy, that she continued up to the end and resumed shortly after birth.
She attends workshops as they become available and enjoys educating new students on the importance of a healty spine. Angelina is a graduate of Colby-Sawyer College with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. Ultimately, she would like to see Pilates used in schools to educate children and give them an awareness of how the body works and the benefits of maintaining healthy spines.

Angelina live in Cornwall with her husband and four children.

When doing pilates, do you have to have the machines to do this, or can it be achieved by using the floor/mats.
I am interested in the bollywood dancing and touching on the pilates as well.

Hi – you don’t have to have the machines but what’s best is to work with a certified instructor – at least to get some trained eyes on your body to help guide you intelligently into the work.
As far as Bollywood dancing, you can call Jen Bruch directly at the studio 802-388-7400 and leave a message in her box. She’ll call you back.
      Thanks for the inquiry!
